As per one legend of Dhanteras, son of the King Hima was destined to die on the 4th day of his marriage. His wife thought of a plan to save the life of her husband. She did not let her husband sleep that night and heaped all precious ornaments, coins and steel utensils at the door and began to sing songs. When the Lord of Death (Yamadev) came there as a serpent to bite him, he was blinded by the shine of ornaments and could not pass the door. Moreover, he was so enchanted by the songs that he slept at the doorsteps and woke up the next day. This way his wife became a savior and rescued her husband’s life.
